Inspiring Women & The Pearls They Wear
Pearls certainly have been a firm favorite with icons of style over the ages and we absolutely love celebrating them. In honor of upcoming Vietnamese Women’s Day this year (20th Oct. 2019), the Namaka team took a look at some more of our favorite women of today who inspire the masses and adore pearls! After all, it’s no secret that a gorgeous string of these gems from the sea can be the ultimate power piece. From the boardroom to the courtroom to the red carpet, pearls travel with grace and simply ooze sophistication. Here are some of our favorite female leaders and the pearl pieces they love to wear:
A forerunner in the big, bold pearl necklace trends since the 70s, Oprah Winfrey is at the helm of a major media empire. As a broadcast producer, she owns HARPO Productions and OWN Network both of which have won numerous awards for The Colour Purple (Oscar-nominated) and her legendary Oprah Winfrey Show. Not only is she one of the wealthiest and most influential women in the world, but she’s also one of the most charitable. She continues to tirelessly give back with her wide variety of charitable causes supported by her Angel Network, as well as her activism for equality within the film and television industry.
Long before Meghan Markle became the Duchess of Sussex, she was an actress and activist, the star of Suits and a United Nations women's advocate for gender equality and women's empowerment. While her style has certainly evolved from Hollywood star to preppy striped blazers and crisp button-downs, our favorite addition to her royal wardrobe is all of the beautiful pearls! In fact, the first official gift from Queen Elizabeth (who is an ardent pearl lover) to the newly-appointed Duchess were diamond and pearl drop earrings in 2018. The two royals even wore a matching pair once!
One super inspiring woman who certainly doesn’t have any trouble making a statement with her jewelry is Amal Clooney. From the runway to the boardroom, this human rights attorney can often be seen sporting all kinds of pearls. While presenting a case in court, giving classes at Columbia or appearing at press conferences, her pieces can vary from demure to bold and everything in between. Whether she’s wearing polished, elegant south-sea pearls or darker, more mysterious Tahitian pearls, she’s utterly poised and professional at all times.
