Saltwater Pearls: Tahitian, Ayoka & South-Sea | Namaka Jewelry

We recently discussed the differences between saltwater and freshwater pearls. However, the world of ocean “periculture” is simply fascinating. There are three major types of saltwater cultured pearls, Akoya, Tahitian, and South Sea. These share many of the same characteristics but, as is the case with natural pearls, each can look vastly different. This is especially true because each is sourced from a different species of oceanic oyster that can only grow one pearl at a time.
